A little later than planned – and from a slightly different vantage point.
Last year Karl Picard wrote a great recap of the 2015 Business Meeting – from his perspective in the audience. A similar perspective to that of most of our readers. I’m going to share a little of the meeting – from being on stage.
Firstly let me point you to the excellent video stream of the meeting from Sounders FC. Secondly there is great coverage and comments from Dave Clark and folk at Sounder At Heart. If you were not there – I recommend reliving at least the Brian Schmetzer hype.
Yes – this was the meeting with a special announcement. The worst kept secret of the year – I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
This was my first Annual Business Meeting as a member of Alliance Council – so apart from being in the audience for previous years – this was all new.
First off – a meeting over at The Ninety with Club ownership and Front Office staff. These meetings are held regularly – and are a valuable two-way communication between the fans and the ownership of the club. Topics ranged from Head Coach, to the MLS Cup run (remember – this was early November!), reviewing some of the highlights and lowlights of the year.
We then made the short journey to Centurylink Field. I was really surprised at the good attendance, Sounders FC had made several players available for meet and greet and autographs, locker room tours were being run – all great hype. Lots of friends, acquaintances (don’t we know each other from twitter?) and plenty of Rave Green.
The Club did the Brian thing. I have to say – even as a nine year Seattle transplant – I was tearing up at the video and presentation of Brian Schmetzer as our Head Coach. The love and respect that everyone from Adrian Hanauer to the most grizzled fan has for the man is incredible.
Finally we came to the Alliance Council annual report to The Alliance. I got my five minutes on stage – and summarised many of the activities from 2016 here – here is the quick recap:
- Changed the design and neckline of the Women’s Jersey for 2017
- Provided input on the design details of the 2018 Jersey
- Promoted getting Garth Lagerwey in front of fans
- Shortlisted entries and ran the 2017 Scarf Vote
- Continued work on Constitution
- Voice of the fan regarding ticketing, mobile ticketing, clear bags
Finally I co-hosted a general Questions and Answer session – with questions from The Alliance.
We did run out of time for questions. There is follow-up still to take place to get those questions answered by the Club. Now we have been to Toronto, brought back a trophy, had a few weeks of rest – it’s time to get that scheduled. Watch this space.
